iOS: Testing and Distribution
Testing Your App
Once you've downloaded your app, you will need to test it.
The easiest way to install an app on an iOS device is via iTunes.
For iTunes v12
- Open the iTunes app on your computer
- Expand your iTunes "Side Bar" by navigating to View -> Show Side Bar
- Choose "Apps" in the drop down menu in the Side Bar
- Drag the IPA file to your iTunes "Apps" under Library
- Plug your device in to your computer
- Click on the icon of the device that shows up next to the "Apps" drop down
- Open the "Apps" tab in the Side Bar, this should show the Apps that are able to be loaded on the Device
- Click install for the application
- In the footer bar within iTunes, press the Sync button
- Once synced the App should now be available for testing on your device.
Trusting an Enterprise App
The first time you load your newly installed Enterprise App you will have to trust the Distribution Certificate. Instructions to do so can be found here: https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT204460
You will now be able to open up the app on your iOS device for testing.
Distribution
Distributing your iOS app can be done in a number of ways.
Common ways are:
- MAM solution (such as Airwatch, Mobile Iron, etc.)
- Apple's App Store for public apps
- A company hosted provisioning page (you will also need to provide users with instructions on how to Trust an Enterprise App)
The most appropriate method will be project dependant, however keep in mind that any of the normal app distribution methods can be used to distribute apps built by the BlinkMobile Buildbots.
