1.2 - Digitisation and Digital Transformation of Enterprises
Digitisation and Digital Transformation:
Digitisation and Digital transformation are the buzz-phrases of the moment.
Digitisation commonly refers to taking existing processes and making them electronic. That will usually improve accuracy, convenience (mostly) and provide some productivity benefits. It’s an incremental improvement. Replacing manual processes with electronic forms is the typical example of a digitisation exercise.
Digital transformation challenges an organisation to look at some of their key business activities and to reimagine them based on being able to harness technologies such as mobile apps, cloud computing, proximity/location, IoT and analytics. By doing this they can create solutions that will dramatically transform their productivity, reduce costs, increase competitiveness or expand their capacity to service. This is an activity-based approach to mobilising business processes.
