Offline Mode

One of the most powerful features of the Blink Mobility Platform is its capability to work in disconnected mode in both web app and native app implementations.

HOWEVER this whole area of operation needs precise understanding when discussing platform capabilities.

Below you will find statements that clearly discuss what you can and can’t say about disconnected operation. There are also statements about what is currently being worked on and when we expect to be able to deliver functionality. A matrix that also describes this functionality is attached.

Disconnected forms:

You have loaded an answerSpace and forms whilst online.
You are disconnected from the network.
You can still use all forms and data suitcases.
The Pending Queue is available to queue delivery of submitted forms. When the network connection is restored you manually re-submit forms from Pending Queue.
This works for iOS and Android native apps and web apps.

Warning: If the phone/tablet goes to sleep then you will need Primed cold-boot capability to be available so that the phone/tablet can restart the answerSpace if it has been terminated. This is currently only available in iOS native and web. See availability of Primed cold-boot below.

Primed cold-boot:

You have loaded an answerSpace and forms whilst online.
You are disconnected from the network.
If your application is terminated either by the OS or explicitly shut by you then you can restart the answerSpace and everything continues to work even when offline.

Note: This is only currently supported in iOS. This is a major current development priority. We anticipate Android support for Primed cold-boot to be available by mid-July 2014 as per the matrix provided. This will be on Android 4.0 and above only.

Fresh cold-boot:

You have loaded an answerSpace native app from an App Store (corporate or public).
You have never gone on-line to the BlinkMobile service.
You are currently offline.
You can start the answerSpace and it will work immediately. However only non-network reliant activity will work.

Note: This is not supported on any platform currently. The Fresh cold-boot functionality will be provided after the Primed cold-boot work for Android is completed. This will be available on Android first, ahead of iOS.
